The Sonja Roberts Memorial Chalice
A long-time parishioner, Sonja Roberts, sadly passed away last year and very generously left a legacy to the Parish. At the same time, it was brought to our attention that this parish has nurtured and produced 58 priests and deacons in its 123-year history. The Parish Council has agreed to use some of her bequest to commemorate those men ordained from this parish; we have commissioned the sculpture of a marble chalice, the symbol of priesthood, engraved with their, and Sonja Robert’s, names.
Friday 21 June 11.00 Bishop Alan Williams will be coming to unveil and bless the chalice on the first anniversary of Sonja’s death. All are welcome. There is limited space in the Prayer Garden itself but there will be a live feed to a screen in the Church. Refreshments afterwards in the Parish Centre.
Sonja’s anniversary falls 9 days before our patronal feast of Ss Peter & Paul. We ask, therefore, that the parish unites in prayer to ask the Lord for an increase in vocations to the priesthood and diaconate, once again, from our parish. A novena prayer card is available from the porch. The following are events in the parish or outside (to which you are welcome) during the days of the Novena:
Saturday 22 June 11.30 The Ordination to the Priesthood for our diocese of Gary Dench at Corpus Christ Church, Lowshoe Lane, Collier Row, RM5 2AP. Deacon Gary has kindly extended an invitation to parishioners of Ss Peter & Paul to his ordination.
Sunday 23 June 11.00 Mass Fr Paul Keane will be coming to preach at our 11.00 Mass. Fr Paul was the last person to be ordained (deacon) here at Ss Peter & Paul in 2003; lived in the Parish that year and is now Vice Rector of the seminary, St Mary’s College, Oscott.
